Cooper: Purebred English Bulldog
Contact: Long Island Bulldog Rescue

Cooper is a gorgeous purebred young neutered bulldog. He is housebroken with no known health issues.
He needs a home with an owner who is familiar with the breed. Who understands calm-assertive leadership as the reason he was surrendered was because he had 'taken over' his prior home. The owner should be physically strong and able to control a strong breed. He needs a home with consistant boundaries, low excitement and someone who can dedicate some time to basic obedience training.
From what we have seen he is a very smart responsive dog and should do well in training. When he first came to us he had a jumping habit. It was discouraged by the staff and that quickly went away.
He is wonderful for bathing and nail trims and is also well behaved for ear, tail and wrinkle cleaning. He has no fear of the force dryer we use to dry dogs, so he will have no problem in the future being groomed professionally.
He is energetic for a bulldog so he WILL require moderate exercise. He even loves to run around for short periods of time and enjoys chasing (but not retrieving) balls. It is STRONGLY SUGGESTED that games such as tug-of-war are NOT played with Cooper. This brings out the 'bulldog' in him and he begins to show dominant aggressive tendancies, as is typical with a bully breed. This could also lead to an accidental bite or cause him to become aggressive with people because he will attempt to dominate anyone who wants to take his toy.
He would do best as the only dog in the household with NO SMALL/YOUNG CHILDREN.
While he does get along with other dogs who are friendly and outgoing, he can become aggressive with nervous or unsure dogs.
He also needs to be watched carefully during social interaction as he has the tendancy to try to mount other dogs, especially those that are smaller than he is. This could cause a a serious fight.
It is not known how he does with cats and he tends to ignore the birds we have here.
